The end of the crappy
weather is in sight, market-goers, and we couldnt be happier.
While weve been challenged by freezing early mornings and tent-wrestling
in gale force winds, weve also been rapt by the popularity of
the market during what is traditionally a slower period.
Special thanks from all of us to our great regulars -
those market-goers who brave the beastliest weather to pick up their
weekly shopping every Sunday, no matter what. Without you the Clevedon
Village Farmers Market wouldnt be what it is today. Roll
on Summer!

PUMPKIN SUNDAY
Weve got a great September lined up, with special focus
on registration for our colourful Pumpkin Growing Competition (weigh-in
scheduled for March 23, 2008). This years inaugural event
attracted more entries than we could have hoped for, and a great
day was had by all. Were planning to replicate and expand
on that success next year, with special treats for all our younger
entrants (under 13 years); plus great prizes in the following categories:
CATEGORY ONE (young people up to 16 years old) - Heaviest
Pumpkin. Prize: iPod Nano.
CATEGORY TWO (adults) - Heaviest Pumpkin. Prize: a voucher
for over $200 worth of market produce (redeemable at the market).
Prizes also for the smallest mature pumpkin, tallest, ugliest, best-looking,
most unusual and largest diameter pumpkins.
To enter, please pick up a seed and registration pack from the Market
Espresso Stall from September 9 (packs cost $2.50 - with $1 going
to the Clevedon School PTA and include three seeds).
MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK
Everyone knows that the quality of the food at the Clevedon Village
Farmers Market is second to none. What you may not know is
that it also represents good value for money.
Supermarkets, as we all know, have bulk buying power and use it
to knock prices down as far as they can. But our stallholders sell
direct to you, which cuts out the middle man.
Not only are you getting hand-made, locally-produced, fresh food
at the Clevedon Village Farmers Market - much of which is
not available in supermarkets at all - but youre also getting
a good deal. Check out these comparisons, gleaned from the local
branch of a major supermarket chain last week:
